BTW – What’s an SRTP?

A Short-Range Transit Plan is conducted every two years. Its purpose is to analyze current operations, revenues and expenses, ridership, and efficiency and effectiveness. The plan is being developed by the City of Porterville under contract with TPG Consulting of Visalia.

    What is the goal?

The goal is to study strengths and areas of weakness in the current operations and identify opportunities for ongoing improvement. An overriding goal will be to increase ridership and fare revenues, while reducing operating costs.

    What have we learned?

    • 87% of riders rate Porterville Transit as “excellent” or “good”
    • 51% of riders use the system daily
    • Nearly 85% of riders use the system at least weekly
    • Nearly half the riders use the system for shopping
    • The next primary reason for taking the bus is school and work
    • The largest ridership is in the 30 to 39 age group, which is younger than the norm for most transit systems
